i'm in love with my camera.

there, i said it.

it had to be said, i think...and i'm glad i did it.

i've been furiously taking many, many digipix and trying to learn how to keep them organized. i'm not a very gadget-oriented person, but i am truly enjoying my new toy.

very soon, i hope to bring you pix of things that are not fruits or vegetables.

wait a minute! here's one now:

shoes

the shoes to the left are cleets for monday night softball and the ones on the right are crazy yellow shoes i wore later that night. i rode my bike in 'em.

$3.90 worth of hotness.

hurrah!

this is a digi-pic of a newly planted zucchini plant in our garden.

i took it with my new camera!

6.28.2006

there is an abundance of thunder and lightning this morning.

no bike today.

however, it seems to be making everything greener and greener still which is fine by me. b and i put our tomato and zucchini plants in the ground this past weekend and i'm happy to have this rain, anchoring them down.

wow! super thunder-time! it's loud, i tell ya!

so anyway, the plants! i heard from a friend that cat hair will deter squirrels from nibbling on your veggies. we've got plenty of that. so, a mere few hours after our planting job, i brushed the kitties vigorously (well, mitch at least), gleaning some serious cat hair. i then took it out to the garden, rolled it into long strands and tied it around the nearby fenceposts. i'm sure i looked like some kind of weird witchy woman trying to ward off evil spirits.

it's raining hard right now. i'm happy to be inside watching it.

hi.

good morning. how are you?

last night i had my first commitment-free evening since i closed the show. it was awesome.

things i did; a list:
  • learned how to put a car seat into my car (for next week when i start hanging with my four-year old friend)
  • went to stanley's and purchased as many fruits and veggies as my arms could carry
  • looked out our sunroom window at the low and very pink sunset
  • made grilled cheese w/ tomato, green beans, sliced up an apple while listening to the new fiery furnaces album (yes!)
  • practiced my ukulele (a birthday gift from hawaii)
  • read a magazine
  • watched a movie with b 'til i was sleepy
  • bed

ahhh...

i must mention a couple things while i'm here in postin' mode. the gift's production of "the glass menagerie" is playing at the theatre on the lake for three more evenings. if you missed it the first time around, i encourage you to see it. it's a great show and an interesting space...plus, you can drink booze inside and along with your program, they pass out fans so you can air-condition yourself. on hot evenings the audience, furiously fanning themselves, must look a bit like a wall of giant, white cardboard moths. also, i have some friends performing later in the season...you should also see their shows: barrel of monkey's "that's weird, grandma" and the neo-futurist's "daredevils." both shows should prove to be quite exciting.

also, come see otis shows!

in honor of my friend arnie's recently completed, year-long blog, i will soon be adding photos to fiesta...or, as i like to refer to them, digipix. it might take me a bit to get the hang of it, but in the spirit of his estimable photo-blogging, i will attempt to post only images that i hope will be intriguing and good-lookin'.

...and mesmeric.

thank you.

a gigantic chocolate-covered thank you to all my fellow trufflers and all of the kind and generous people who came to see the show. it was an real experience.

i will leave you with this haiku:

golden truffle show
already missing sweet friends
goodbye to cake time.

6.16.2006

60+ shows down, 4 to go.

"the golden truffle" is actually about to close this sunday and it's almost impossible to believe. i think it will be very strange not to see these people each and every day. i know i will miss it, but i won't know just how much until about 2 weeks from now when i find myself wondering where i'm supposed to be at 6:30 when i don't have to be anywhere at all. these last few will be hot ones, though...i nearly sweat my ever-lovin' face off last night during the show. it's REAL hot in there when you're dressed in three synthetic layers of non-breatheable, albeit visually stunning, costumes. we will go out with a big, sweaty bang.

...and sunday is my birthday.

6.13.2006

it has come to my attention

that i will be visiting this baby

in a little less than 4 weeks.

that makes me so very happy.

gifted AND talented!

so, yesterday, while my sweet b was surfing the waves of the pacific ocean thousands of miles away, i was here at home, taking one for the softball team. we really stepped up yesterday, losing by only TWO measly points! not bad! we played like a real team last night and i was quite proud of us...

meanwhile, at a theater elsewhere in the city, paul (normally our manager for softball) was winning a jeff award (chicago's answer to the tony awards) for "hurlyburly." to him i say, "brava, chachi!"

here's a little scene from "hurlyburly" that i've reimagined, inspired by the tiniest (and only) picture i could find online:

b (as mickey)- hey buddy, want this snowball? be sort of danishish.

p (as eddie)- no. not hungry. i'd rather have a 2006 joseph jefferson citation
for best actor in a leading role
...maybe. whatever. blah, blah, blah, rapeteta.

b- right, sure. who wouldn't. i mean - blah, blah, blah, rapeteta.

(beat.)

p- hot robe, dude.

(lights slowly fade.)

nice work, gift theatre.
